Hisato Mochizuki is the new sushi chef in our Japanese restaurant Benkay. At the sushi bar in the "Fish Corner," the 53-year-old Japanese prepares the small rice rolls in front of our guests. Hisato Mochizuki has a lot of experience. Since 1984, he worked as a sushi chef at the Nippon Kan in Dusseldorf, the oldest Japanese restaurants in Europe.

Last year we already started with the softrenovation. This year we continue to renovate our main building with further 100 rooms. This facelift will be finished by the end of this summer. This redecoration is part of a three year renovation plan. By the end of 2013 we will have all 301 rooms in the main building fixed.

Every year we have a Wish-Tree for the Japanese Tanabata festivities. It is decorated with wishes from children that are regular guests of the “Düsseldorfer Kindertafel e.V.”. The “Düsseldorfer Kindertafel e.V.” daily caters people in need. According to the Japanese legend the two loving ones Altair and Wega are only allowed to meet each other at one special day of the year, which is the 7 th of July. On this day it is common in Japan to write wishes on coloured paper strips and hang them onto a bamboo tree. Where money is short, cutbacks in presents for children, have to be made, unfortunately. With our action we want to support the Düsseldorfer Kindertafel e.V.. All wishes have been picked up of the tree. So now we can make the children happy - on September 15th they will receive their gifts. A big thank you to everyone who supported this event.

A breathtaking surprise for the female hotel nikko staff and guests: Hollywood-Beau George Clooney met one of his managers for dinner in the Benkay restaurant of the hotel nikko düsseldorf at 1st of February. The U.S. filmstar was impressed by the "beautiful hotel" and the "delicious food" and let general manager Bertold Reul know that he will return. "A very likeable person without any airs and graces", stated Reul, who was in contrary to the ladies of the house, not close to fainting when he stood next to him for taking the picture. For aperitif Clooney had a glass of Champagne followed by the "menu Japan" with suhsi, sashimi, tempura and sirloinsteak accompanied by cold sake.
