Little Tokyo Dusseldorf
リトルトーキョーへようこそ
between Japanese elegance and international atmosphere in the heart of Düsseldorf

Japan is worth every trip
If you don’t want to spend hours on a plane, you can relax and head to the beautiful (Rhine) Land of Smiles; to Little Tokyo. Düsseldorf is Germany’s largest Japanese community with almost 8000 “expats” and the Immermannstraße is the pulsating center of culture. In style, most visitors plan to spend a night at the Hotel Nikko as a base for day and night excursions. Just outside the door stretches Little Tokyo with its numerous stores, restaurants and izakayas (the small bar-like bistros). The restaurants located here serve authentic Japanese cuisine that you would otherwise look in vain for outside the island kingdom.
The hotel’s own restaurant “Benkay Teppanyaki” alone has won several national awards and offers a unique taste experience with its show chef at the iron plate grill. But you can’t just find Tokyo on Immermannstrasse; whether it’s the Japanese Garden in the north or the “EKŌ House of Japanese Culture” in the west of the city, Düsseldorf has a very special relationship with the Far Eastern country. This German-Japanese friendship has now existed for 160 years and is duly celebrated every year on Japan Day.
Ideas for your personal Japan Day
If you want to experience Japan completely, you should preferably book our “Picnic Special“, which includes an overnight stay with (Japanese) breakfast and access to our SKY SPA, where you can really relax. If you are looking for fresh air, we will provide you with your own picnic basket for the road. Ideally, you should take it with you on your way to the Japanese Garden in the north of the city. The means of transport of choice here often falls on the e-bikes, which can also be found in front of the hotel.
In the afternoon, one prefers to go to one of the numerous small cafés, such as the Ten Ten, the Benkay Bar, the Matcha Café Wakaba, the traditional bookstore Takagi Books or the Japanese bakery Bakery My Heart. If you like it even more traditional, it’s best to visit the EKŌ House, where you can take part in a tea ceremony, among other things – but you have to register in advance. If you come without registration, you can still visit a beautiful garden, a traditional Japanese wooden house and a Buddhist temple. Interesting exhibitions on Japanese themes are also shown regularly.
If you are looking for a Japanese omiyage (souvenir), you should visit the Takagi bookstore or the Kyoto store on Immermannstraße. The numerous Asian supermarkets also serve this purpose excellently and should definitely be included in the itinerary.
In the evening, it is the small restaurants that attract visitors from afar, even in the side streets of Little Tokyo. Here you can find everything that makes your heart (or palate) beat faster; from sushi, to ramen, to exquisite teppanyaki, Düsseldorf offers fulfillment for every Japan fan. If you want to get your bearings, you should definitely try the Japanese dishes in the hotel restaurant and look forward to the culinary journey.
